On submerged wood in fresh water habitats. |
Ascomata: |
Ascomata 160–290 µm diam., 160–300 µm (Peruvian collections: venter = 88–121 µm diam, 78–115 µm high), globose to subglobose, immersed to superficial, coriaceous, white, becoming straw-colored and finally pale reddish brown, tissue of textura angularis in surface view, ostiolate, with a neck. |
Peridium: |
Peridium hyaline at first, becoming straw colored to pale brown with age, tissues of textura angularis in surface view. |
Beak: |
Necks 100¬–150 x 45–65 µm (Peruvian collections: 90–178 x 29–36 µm expanding to 34–82 µm at the apex), cylindrical, broadening at the apex, of parallel hyphae, periphysate, hyaline at first, becoming a rose-brown color. |
Hamathecium: |
Paraphyses 2–3.5 µm wide at the base, tapering slightly to a rounded apex, xxxx long, septate, mostly unbranched, occasionally branched. |
Ascus: |
Asci 52–63 x 7–8 µm (mean = 58 x 7.4 µm, n = 10), broadly oblong, pedicellate, unitunicate, thin-walled, persistent, apex slightly truncate, with a small faintly bipartite, refractive, J- apical ring (ca. 4 µm diam., 2 µm long). |
Ascospore: |
Ascospores 10–14 x 5–7 µm, (mean = 12.2 x 5.8 µm = 25) (Peruvian collection = 11–15 x 6–8 µm), overlapping uniseriate to biseriate, ellipsoidal, with rounded ends, hyaline, unicellular, smooth, thin-walled, with 2 large guttules, with a thin, mucilaginous sheath (ascospore sheath not seen in Peruvian collection). |
