Immersed, partly immersed to occasionally superficial on wood. |
Ascomata: |
Ascomata globose, subglobose or occasionally pyriform, immersed, semi-immersed or less commonly superficial, hyaline to cream coloured, with a short papilla either directly above the ascoma, or ascoma hoizontal to host ssurface with neck bending upwards, membranous, solitary or gregarious. |
Peridium: |
Peridium of 3-6 layers of thick-walled elongate cells. Catenophyses present, 18-23 µm thick. |
Beak: |
Beak light-coloured, short, with periphyses. |
Hamathecium: |
Hamathecium absent. |
Ascus: |
Asci 8-spored, clavate with a flattened tip, tip thickened with an indistinct pore or plug, plasmalemma behind apical region retracted, pedunculate, persistent, with probable active spore release, 128-171 x 28-39.5 µm. |
Ascospore: |
Ascospores bi-triseriate, hyaline, fusiform, 2-celled, with weakly acute apices, appendages developing at each of the poles, 35-55 x 11.5-17 µm. |
Sheath: |
Sheath at first appears as sickle-shaped structure derived from the ascospore pole which extend to the central septa. The appendages dissolve in water to form filamentous threads. |
