Description

Habit: Saprobic, ascomata solitary, superficial to immersed on submerged wood. Lepidopterella palustris - Habit
Ascomata: Ascomata solitary, superficial to immersed, globose to subglobose, black, non-ostiolate, 250-480 µm diam. Lepidopterella palustris - Ascomata

Ascus: Asci developing and maturing outward from the base of the perithecium, fissitunicate, globose to subglobose, stalked, thick-walled, lacking a subapical chamber. 8-spored, 65-100 (x=82) x 26-43 (x=37.5). Ectoascus rigid, rupturing by an apical slit. Lepidopterella palustris - Ascus
Ascospore: Ascospores papilionaceous, 2-celled, brown, smooth-walled, 15.6-22.8 (x=18.8) µm long at septum, 25-30 (x=28) µm maximum width. Lepidopterella palustris - Ascospore

Culture: Colonies on EmersonÕs yeast extract, soluble starch agar black, effuse, appressed to floccose. Mycelium composed of branched, septate, dark brown, appressed hyphae and hyaline, thin-walled, branched septate, floccose hyphae.
