Synonymy: Basionym: Halosarpheia lotica Shearer. Mycotaxon 20: 505. 1984.

Description

Habit: Saprobic, ascomata solitary to gregarious, superficial to immersed on submerged wood.
Ascomata: Ascomata on natural substrata solitary to gregarious, superficial to immersed; ostiolate, hyaline to greyish brown; venter globose to subglobose, 208-396 (x=352, s-62) µm diam.
Peridium: Peridium thin, membranous, composed of pseudoparenchymatic cells.
Beak: Beaks long, cylindrical, 238-693 (x=336, s=152) x 30-48 (x-39, s=4.9) µm, hyaline at apex or throughout, periphysate.
Hamathecium: Hamathecium of chains of large, thin-walled cells (catenophyses). Natantispora lotica - Hamathecium
Ascus: Asci unitunicate, broadly clavate to cylindrical, thin-walled, lacking an apical apparatus, deliquescing before or at ascospore maturity, 86-137 (x=115, s=12) x 34-43 (x=39, s=2.7) µm. Natantispora lotica - Ascus
Ascospore: Ascospores ellipsoidal, hyaline, 1-septate, frequently becoming 3-septate with age, slightly indented at mid-septum, with conspicuous refractile oil globules at apices and around mid-septum, 26.4-38.4 (x=31.9, s=2.9) x 9.6-14.4 (x= 12, s=1.2) µm. Natantispora lotica - Ascospore
Sheath: Ascospore appendages 7-17 x 1.5-2.4 uncoiled, frequently appearing to be attached slightly eccentrically, each composed of a single filament which is tightly coiled to appear hamate in side view but which is somewhat flattened into a shield-like shape by appression to the ascospore wall. Appendage uncoils in water to form a very long fine filament that sticks to debris. Natantispora lotica - Sheath
Appendage:
Culture: Colonies on EmersonÕs yeast extract soluble starch agar floccose, white becoming grey to greyish black. Mycelium composed of branched, septate, subhyaline to greyish brown hyphae; aerial hyphae hyaline.
Anamorph: None seen.
