Description

Habit: Saprobic, ascomata immersed, partly immersed or superficial on submerged wood.
Ascomata: Ascomata 224-390 µm long, 128-167 µm diam., globose, subglobose, or ellipsoidal, immersed, semi-immersed or superficial, solitary, coriaceous, papillate, brown or black.
Peridium: Peridium comprising an outer layer of brown-walled compressed cells and an inner layer of hyaline compressed cells.
Beak: None reported.
Hamathecium: Paraphyses up to 5 µm wide, hypha-like, septate and tapering.
Ascus: Asci 129-195 x 11-20 µm, 8-spored, cylindrical, thin-walled, with a J-refractive apical ring, 4.5 µm high, 6 µm diam.
Ascospore: Ascospores 23-30 x 7-10 µm (x = 26 x 8.4 µm, n = 50), overlapping uniseriate or biseriate, fusiform, hyaline, aseptate, with verruculose wall ornamentations which are covered by a thin layer of exosporial muscilaginous material, with cup-shaped polar chmbers. The wall ornamentations and the polar chamber wall are elaborations of the episporium. The polar appendages are at first compact inside the polar chambers, but once released in water, the appendages expand and unfurl to form long filamentous threads from the wide opening of the chambers. Appendages material comprises fibrillar material in a gel matrix where the fibrillar material appears to be derived from the electron-dense projections extended from the episporium (TEM).
Sheath: Thin, muscilaginous sheath surrounding ascospore.
Appendage: None reported.
Culture:
Anamorph: Unknown.
