Description

Habit: Saprobic on submerged wood; ascomata scattered and immersed.
Ascomata: Ascomata 258-270 x 136-142 µm , scattered, immersed, uniform, rostrate, membranous, black, paraphysate. Ascotaiwania persoonii - Ascomata
Peridium: Peridium several layers thick, brown of textura angularis in surface view, in longitudinal section 40-45 µm wide, composed of 16-20 cells of textura angularis.
Beak: Beaks 288-380 µm x 100-120 µm, central, membranous, cylindrical, rounded at apex, setose to mycelial, periphysate, ostiolate. Ascotaiwania persoonii - Beak
Hamathecium: Paraphyses 1-2 µm wide, simple or branched, thin, septate. Ascotaiwania persoonii - Hamathecium
Ascus: Asci (164-)210 - 283(-294) x 6.5-10 µm, in a broad hymenium, unitunicate, cylindrical, 8-spored, persistent, with a long stalk measuring 35-46 µm, with an apical ring, 7.5-10.5 µm, J-, staining blue in aqueous cotton blue. Ascotaiwania persoonii - Ascus
Ascospore: Ascospores 30-44(-46) x 6.5-9(-10) µm, uniseriate, cylindrical to fusoid, five or rarely six septate, sometimes constricted at septa, central cells light brown, 6.5-9 µm long, penultimate cells light brown, 5.5-6.5(-8) µm long, end cells hyaline, acute or rounded, 3-4.5 µm long.
