Description

Habit: Ascomata on submerged decomposed Picea mariana needles.
Ascomata: Stroma not seen. Apothecia 600–700 x 128–200 µm, scattered, yellow; disc 230–370 µm in diam., convex, pruinose; receptacle cylindrical, tapering to a slightly wider base; base light brown.
Peridium: Ectal excipulum of textura globosa, thin-walled. Paraphyses 1.5–2 µm wide, mostly simple, at times branched and with rounded ends.
Beak: Not applicable.
Hamathecium: Paraphyses 1.5–2 µm wide, mostly simple, at times branched and with rounded ends.
Ascus: Asci 74–83 x 7.5–9.5 µm, cylindric-clavate, inoperculate, thin-walled, tapering to a short hoof-shaped stipe; apex broadly conical, with pore staining in MLZ.
Ascospore: Ascospores 8–12 x 2–3.5 µm ellipsoid, guttulate, at first surrounded entirely with a gelatinous sheath that becomes bipolar in water; sheath at each end 10–15 µm long.
Sheath: Gelatinous sheath present that surrounds the ascospore and becomes bipolar in water; sheath at each end 10–15 µm long.
