Description
Habit: |
Subepidermal on submerged partially decomposed leaves of Vaccinium oxycoccus. |
Ascomata: |
Ascomata 400–440 x 216–280 µm, subglobose or pyriform, scattered, membranous, subepidermal, with the beak protruding out of the epidermis, with hyaline venter, occurring mostly on the underside of leaves. |
Peridium: |
Peridium 14–22 µm thick, hyaline, composed of 3 or 4 layers of pseudoparenchymatic cells; cells 11.5–29 x 1.9–9.7 µm |
Beak: |
Beaks 168–200 x 80–104 µm, black, periphysate, composed of 3–5 layers of darkened small globose cells, 4–12 x 2–8 µm, with spines 66.3–136.5 x 1.9–7.8 µm; spines at 30 to 45 degree angle. |
Hamathecium: |
Paraphyses 136.5–218 x 3.9–9.75 µm, wide at the base, narrowing toward apex, with gel coating, extending beyond asci. |
Ascus: |
Asci 140–191 x 39–52.5 µm, subelliptical or clavate, with narrower upper portion at times, truncate at the apex, unitunicate, thin-walled, persistent, with MLZ- apical apparatus, tapering to a subsessile base. |
Ascospore: |
Ascospores (27.3-) 29–43.3 (-46.8) x 11.7–17.5 (-19.5) µm, oblong-elliptic, hyaline when young, becoming light brown at maturity, densely guttulate, echinulate, thick-walled, with a gelatinous sheath. |
