Description

Habit: Superficial to partially immersed on decorticated, submerged wood; solitary or aggregated.
Ascomata: Ascomata 60–65 µm high, 70–75 µm diam, globose, dark brown to black.
Peridium: Peridium 10–15 µm wide, of 3 to 5 layers of hyaline compressed cells, with an outer layer of dark brown textura angularis.
Beak: Beak absent; ostiole periphysate.
Hamathecium: Pseudoparaphyses 5–15 µm long, 2-3 µm wide at base, of short chains of globose cells, often breaking up into individual cells, constricted at the septa.
Ascus: Asci globose, 25–30 µm diam., 4-spored, globose, pedicellate, bitunicate.
Ascospore: Ascospores 22–25 x 8–10 µm, biseriate, broadly-fusiform, 1-septate, constricted at the septa, hyaline, surrounded by an irregular mucilaginous sheath.
Sheath: Gelatinous sheath broadest at the ascospore mid-septum. tapering towards the ascospore apices.
Appendage: Not present.
Culture: Colonies on PDA glow-growing, attaining 25 mm after one month at room temperature (25C), dark grey, growing in concentric rings, with greyish white aerial hyphae, reverse black.
