Description

Habit: Superficial to partly immersed on wood; clustered or scattered.
Ascomata: Ascomata hyaline, superficial to partly immersed, globose, ostiolate, hyaline, 75-139 µm diam. Aniptodera fusiformis - Ascomata
Peridium: Peridium membranous, thin, hyaline, of textura angularis in face view.
Beak: Beaks conical, periphysate, 24-36 x 19-35 µm at base.
Hamathecium: Hamathecium sparse, of chains of globose, thin-walled cells (catenophyses).
Ascus: Asci fasciculate at base of ascoma, subglobose, unitunicate, thin-walled, containing eight ascospores, with apical pore and cytoplasm retracted below the ascus apex, deliquescent or not, 36-60 x 19-35 µm. Aniptodera fusiformis - Ascus
Ascospore: Ascospores one-septate, hyaline, fusiform, thick walled (wall 1.5-2.0 µm thick), triangular channel in apical walls, 19-28 x 8-12 µm. Aniptodera fusiformis - Ascospore

Type & Location: HOLOTYPE: USA: IL, Jordan Creek, a tributary of the Salt Fork of the Vermilion River, Vermilion County, east central Illinois, slide made from a specimen on cottonwood twigs (Populus deltoides Marsh) submerged from June 1978 to November 1980, CA Shearer, J-146-1A, NY. Isotypes: NY - slides from same material, J-146-1B-D.
