Description

Habit: Ascomata on wood partially immersed to immersed.
Ascomata: Ascomata on wood 380–425 x 490–670 mm, partially immersed to immersed in the substrate, globose to subglobose, membranous, black, ostiolate. Luttrellia guttulata - Ascomata
Peridium: Peridium 12–20 mm thick, composed of 8–10 cell layers, outer region of dark, elongated cells, inner region of hyaline, elongated to isodiametric cells.
Beak: Neck 100–170 x 70–80 mm, cylindrical, dark brown. Luttrellia guttulata - Beak
Hamathecium: Hamathecium of catenophyses, 10–14 mm wide, septate, hyaline.
Ascus: Asci 320–350 x 24 mm, unitunicate, cylindrical, thin walled, lacking an apical pore and apical structures, 8-spored, uniseriate to overlapping uniseriate, early deliquescent, asci elongating in water. Luttrellia guttulata - Ascus
Ascospore: Ascospores 36–48 x 20–25 mm (mean = 39.95 x 20.69 mm, n = 30), broadly ellipsoidal-fusiform to ellipsoidal, hyaline, 3-septate, occasionally 5-septate, not constricted at septa, thick-walled (2.0–2.5 mm), surrounded by a gelatinous sheath about 6–10 mm wide.
