Description

Habit: Immersed or partially immersed on submerged woody or herbaceous debris.
Ascomata: Ascomata 200–350 µm in diameter, globose to sub-globose, immersed or partially immersed, hyaline to greyish, membranous, ostilolate, with a neck. Aniptodera palmicola - Ascomata
Peridium: Thin-walled, of textura angularis in surface view.
Beak: Necks cylindrical, hyaline, periphysate.

Ascus: Asci 100–140 x 38–60 µm, 8-spored, clavate, pedicellate, thin-walled, apically truncated and thickened, with an apical pore and cytosplasm retracted below the ascus apex. Aniptodera palmicola - Ascus
Ascospore: Ascospores 34–44 x 14–16 µm, hyaline, ellipsoidal, bicelled, not constricted at the septum but narrowed or not in the mid-region, relatively thick-walled (2–2.5 µm wide), with bipolar, gelatinous, thread-like appeandages. Aniptodera palmicola - Ascospore
Sheath: Not observed.

Type & Location: SOUTH AFRICA: Kwa Zulu-Natal, Mt Unzini, The National Monument, on submerged rachis of Raphia australia, Nov. 1994, K.D. Hyde and T. Steinke, SARAB (HKU(M) 2205, holotype.
