Peridium: Peridium 12–15.5 µm thick, 3 layers of large pseudoparenchymatic cells, 6–10 x 4–6 µm, of textura angularis in longitudinal section and face view, darker toward the outside and hyaline toward inside.
Beak: Beak 5–10 x 27–43 µm, central, intra-epidermal, without periphyses.
Hamathecium: Pseudoparaphyses cellular, numerous, 2–3.5 µm thick.
Ascus: Asci (-70) 93.5–152 x 20.5–27 µm, fissitunicate, broadly cylindrical to clavate, tapering to a short hoof-shaped stipe, fasciculate, basal.
Ascospore: Ascospores 24–29 x 8–10 µm, broadly fusiform, straight or at times slightly curved, reddish brown to olivaceous, thick-walled, constricted at the first and second septa, with second cells slightly enlarged, possessing a gelatinous sheath that does not stain with India ink.
Sheath: Gelatinous sheath surrounding the ascospore; sheath not staining in India ink.
Appendage: Not observed.
Culture:
Anamorph: The anamorph Scolecosporiella typhae (Oudem.) Petrak was associated with this fungus (Sivanesan 1984), but an anamorph was not observed in our collections cited below.
