Description
|
Habit: |
Ascomata on woody debris submerged in freshwater |
|
Ascomata: |
Ascomata 112–168 µm in diameter, globose to subglobose, superficial to slightly immersed, brown, membranous, ostiolate with neck. |
|
Peridium: |
Peridium 14–19 µm thick, composed of several layers of elongate, thin-walled, lightly pigmented pseudoparenchyma. |
|
Beak: |
Neck 44 x 48 µm long, 24µm wide, light brown at the apex, brown below. |
|
Hamathecium: |
Hamathecium of catenophyses. |
|
Ascus: |
Ascus 44 x 18 µm (n=1, immature), lacking an apical apparatus, thin-walled, containing eight ascospores, deliquescing early. |
|
Ascospore: |
Ascospores 26–34 (-36) x 6–8 µm (27–37 x 9–17.5 µm in Wong et al. 1998), ellipsoidal, hyaline, one septate, one cell containing 1–2 large guttules, the other with numerous small guttules, with bipolar, unfurling appendages. Ascospores develop a second septum in the upper cell during germination. |
|
Sheath: |
No sheath observed. |
|
Appendage: |
Appendages bi-apical, coiled to form hamate structures that unfurl in water to form very long fine threads. |

Culture: |
Colonies on PYG agar black, brownish black in reverse, with no diffusible pigments; hyphal growth compact, mostly submersed in the medium. |
Anamorph: |
Trichocladium sp. |
