Description

Habit: Ascomata on wood superficial, partially immersed or immersed.
Ascomata: Ascomata 150–326 x 150–366 (mean = 230 x 222), solitary to gregarious, superficial, partially immersed or immersed, globose to subglobose, hyaline at first, becoming black, ostiolate.
Peridium: Peridium membranous, pseudoparenchymatic, multi-layered, the outer layer brown to black, inner layer hyaline, of laterally compressed cells.
Beak: Neck cylindrical, periphysate, dark at base, hyaline at apex, 108–564 x 13.5–50 µm (mean = 269–31 µm).
Hamathecium: Hamathecium of catenophyses.
Ascus: Asci unitunicate, clavate, thin-walled, deliquescing before or at maturity, 53–144 x 14.4-24 µm (mean = 80 x 18 µm)
Ascospore: Ascospores ellipsoidal, hyaline, 1-septate, appendiculate, 20.4–33.6 µm (mean = 27.3 x 8.0 µm).
Sheath: None observed.
Appendage: Ascospore appendages bipolar, composed of a single,coiled or folded filament, at first hamate, finally unwinding in water to produce a long, fine filament.
Culture: Colonies on EmersonÕs yeast extract soluble starch agar effuse, floccose, hyaline, becoming gray to black. Mycelium composed of branched, septate, subhyaline to brown hyphae.
Anamorph: None observed.
