Description

Habit: On woody debris.
Ascomata: Ascomata 380–496 x 300–320 µm, scattered or in groups, immersed becoming erumpent, globose or pyriform, sometimes collabent, dull black, carbonaceous, smooth, with a slit-like opening
Peridium: Peridium 30–50 µm thick, composed of 3 to 5 layers of pseudoparenchymatic cells, of textura angularis, hyaline toward inside, cells 3–8 x 2–4 µm.
Beak: Beak 160–184 x 98–104 µm, conical, periphysate, central.
Hamathecium: Pseudoparaphyses trabeculate, < 1 µm wide, in gel matrix, anastomosing.
Ascus: Asci 101.5–125 x 8–11.5 µm, cylindro-clavate, tapering to a hoof-shaped stipe, fissitunicate, with small ocular chamber, with 8 uniseriate to overlapping biseriate ascospores.
Ascospore: Ascospores (14-) 16–24 (-25) x 4–9 µm, ellipsoid to broadly fusiform, rounded at the apices, brown, with mostly 3-septa and occasionally with 4 or 5 septa, constricted strongly at middle septum and less so at other septa, second cell wider, guttulate, granular.
